RIMA-I is constantly striving to develop and grow the reflective insulation and radiant barrier industries and be a reliable resource of accurate information for building professionals and consumers alike. Some of RIMA-I’s most recent accomplishments include:
- Developing “A Comprehensive Review of Radiant Barrier Research Including Laboratory and Field Experiments” being launched January 2012 by ASHRAE
- Partnering with RESNET to work together to expand the awareness of reflectives and energy efficiency
- Partnering with Global Insulation to share information on the benefits of reflective insulation, radiant barriers and IRCCs
- Establishing the International Reflective Insulation Manufacturers (I-RIM) Conference which is held bi-annually
- Representing the industry in ASHRAE
- Working with the Fraunhofer Institute and Building America Program
- Working with the DOE, including the Energy Star Program
- Representing reflectives on RESNET’s Insulation Council within their Insulation Technical Committee
- Participating in the High Performance Building Council in Washington, DC
- Developing the Product Verification Program which verifies testing and product data for manufacturers
- Maintaining an official code representative to attend code hearings, review code changes and make recommendations on code issues
- Establishing a Code & Legislative Committee to oversee code activities and contribute to and/or develop codes
- Established an International Blog for members to stay up-to-date on industry issues around the world
- Developing technical bulletins and other educational materials and resources to educate both building professionals and consumers on reflective products
- Aiding in the development of Department of Energy, ‘Energy Fact Sheet on Radiant Barriers’ and the Department of Energy, ‘Energy Handbook on Reflective Insulation’
- Participating in Federal Standards formation
- Developing an AIA Accredited Course for Architects and Engineers (www.ronblank.com)
- Providing articles and information to industry magazines and publications on a variety of industry topics
- Contributing technical papers to various seminars and workshops sponsored by the Department of Energy, ASHRAE, TVA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as well as a number of building and insulation industry associations
- Participating in national/international conferences offering workshops, seminars, and educational sessions
- Established a presence as ‘the voice’ for the reflective insulation, radiant barrier and IRCC industries
RIMA-I will continue to work with organizations, societies, associations, and governmental agencies to gain further acceptance of reflective products, help educate on the benefits and uses of these products and help establish standards that promote their best use.
